May 12th is the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
On Saturday May 12th, Campbell Soup and the National Association of Letter Carriers will team up for the 20th year to collect food donations for millions of Americans who are struggling with hunger for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive. Stamp Out Hunger is a nationwide effort that provides food to local food banks and pantries that would otherwise face depleted stock during the summer months. Food Banks across the country continue to experience record demand for emergency food assistance.
Over 210,000 Letter Carriers nationwide will be collecting non-perishable foods left next to mailboxes by generous Americans in over 10,000 communities and will deliver them to food banks and other hunger relief organizations.
Campbell Soup will kick off this years Stamp Out Hunger by pledging to donate one million pounds of food to Feeding America.
The need for donations is quickly on the rise. Last year, an estimated 49 million Americans were living in homes with an insecure supply of food. One in every five of those Americans was a child, which is an estimated 16 million children last year that did not have the food they needed.
What you can do to help: Just leave a bag of non-perishable food by where your letter carrier delivers your mail on Saturday May 12th. Your letter carrier will then pick up the bag and deliver it to a local food bank.
Non-perishable items include: Canned foods such as Soup, Meats, Fruits, Vegetables, Beans, etc. Boxed goods such as Cereal, Pasta, Rice, etc. Please take the time to clean out your pantry and help another fill theirs.
